About Maui Raceway Park
Drag racing in the US experienced a boom in the post-WWII era as military veterans with a "need for speed" returned to the states itching to get on a race track, and Hawaii was no exception. Founded in 1963 by a group of Maui drag racers, the Maui Raceway Park is now in its 42nd race season and is one of the five oldest tracks in the entire country, with its top 1/4 mile track speed clocked at 236 miles per hour. It has undergone many changes over the years, but has always remained open. Home to a sprawling 220 acres, the facility is now managed by the Maui County Parks and Recreation Department.
The track's race season runs from February through November, with ten events scheduled for each season. The popular weekend events feature approximately 150 racers and over 2000 spectators. The current season's schedule can be viewed at www.mrp.org
New racers are always welcomed, provided that the racer has a valid driver's license, helmet, long pants, shirt with sleeves, and closed-toed shoes. All vehicles must undergo a safety and technical inspection prior to being raced.
